Dogwifhat (WIF) is a Solana-based meme coin launched on November 20, 2023, built around a viral photograph of a Shiba Inu named Achi wearing a pink knitted hat. Its tagline, "literally just a dog wif a hat," signals that it has no utility, roadmap, or development team: it is a pure culture token. WIF has a fixed supply of about 998.9 million tokens, all in circulation, and trades on Binance, Coinbase, Kraken, Bybit, OKX, and, since May 2026, Upbit. It reached an all-time high of about $4.83 on March 31, 2024, briefly becoming the third-largest meme coin with a market cap above $4 billion. The project is best known for the "Sphere Wif Hat" crowdfunding campaign, which raised nearly $700,000 in March 2024 to put the dog on the Las Vegas Sphere, a plan abandoned in March 2025 with refunds issued. As of September 2026, WIF trades around $0.15 with a market cap near $150 million, ranking among the top six animal-themed meme coins.
Dogwifhat is a meme coin in the purest sense. Where Dogecoin has a blockchain and Shiba Inu has an ecosystem, WIF has a picture. Its entire identity is a photograph of a Shiba Inu wearing a slightly-too-small pink knitted hat, looking mildly bewildered. The project's self-description, "literally just a dog wif a hat," is both a joke and a disclosure: there is no product, no team, and no promise beyond the meme itself.
That absence of pretense became WIF's selling point during Solana's 2023–2024 meme boom. As traders grew weary of tokens promising "utility" that never shipped, WIF's honesty about being nothing but a vibe resonated. The token became a symbol of Solana's resurgence after the FTX collapse and a flagship for a new wave of Solana-native memes.
The "wif" spelling (a deliberate misspelling of "with") spawned an entire naming convention. Within months of WIF's rise, hundreds of tokens adopted the "X wif Y" format, and the phrase "hat stays on" became a rallying cry for holders through every drawdown.
The dog in the WIF image is Achi, a Shiba Inu whose owner photographed him in a pink knit beanie in 2019. The image circulated on social media for years as a reaction meme before anyone attached a token to it.
In November 2023, an anonymous creator launched WIF on Solana using the image. There was no presale and no announced team. The token launched with liquidity on Solana DEXs, and its early growth was entirely organic, driven by crypto Twitter (X) accounts sharing the photo and the ticker.
The choice of Solana mattered. Solana's sub-cent fees and fast confirmation times made it the ideal chain for rapid-fire meme trading, and WIF became the poster child for what analysts later called Solana's "meme season." Achi's owner has occasionally interacted with the community, and the original physical hat has become a piece of crypto folklore.
WIF began trading on Solana DEXs at fractions of a cent. Early buyers on Raydium and Jupiter accumulated tokens for well under $0.01.
As Solana's price and ecosystem recovered, WIF rallied alongside BONK. By late December it had listed on several mid-tier centralized exchanges and crossed $0.20, then pulled back.
WIF entered 2024 near $0.15 with a market cap in the low hundreds of millions, already one of Solana's largest memes.
Three catalysts converged:
Binance listing (March 5, 2024). Binance's spot and futures listing opened WIF to the world's largest exchange user base.
The Sphere Wif Hat campaign (mid-March 2024). A crowdfunding push to advertise WIF on the Las Vegas Sphere raised over $690,000 USDC in days and generated mainstream press coverage.
Solana meme mania. Capital flooded into Solana memes during Bitcoin's run to a new all-time high in March 2024.
WIF rocketed from about $0.15 to $4.83 by March 31, 2024, a gain of more than 3,000% in three months. On April 1, its market cap hit roughly $4.27 billion, briefly surpassing PEPE to rank as the third-largest meme coin behind DOGE and SHIB.
WIF corrected to about $1.95 in April, then traded between roughly $2 and $4 for several months as Coinbase, Kraken, and Robinhood added it.
Post-election crypto euphoria pushed WIF to about $4.67, just shy of its March high, before it faded to around $1.86 by year-end.
WIF fell from $1.86 in January 2025 to roughly $0.42–$0.44 by March. On March 31, 2025, organizers abandoned the Sphere campaign and began refunds, dealing a reputational blow. WIF dropped out of the top 100 by market cap.
WIF entered 2026 in a well-defined macro downtrend below its major weekly moving averages, with the $0.30–$0.35 zone serving as support until it gave way. The May 6, 2026 Upbit listing produced a 25–44% spike to about $0.28 before fading. Through summer 2026, WIF traded between roughly $0.13 and $0.20.
Total supply: 998,926,392 WIF.
Circulating supply: 100%. There is no locked, vested, or team-held allocation.
Inflation: None. No minting authority.
Burns: None built in.
WIF launched as a fair launch with no presale, no allocation to a team, and no venture-capital round. All tokens entered circulation via DEX liquidity at launch. Because no entity controls a large reserved allocation, WIF's supply dynamics are entirely market-driven. Whale concentration exists, as with any meme coin, but it results from open-market accumulation rather than insider allocations.
The Solana mint address is EKpQGSJtjMFqKZ9KQanSqYXRcF8fBopzLHYxdM65zcjm. Upbit's May 2026 listing notice specifically instructed users to verify this address and to use the Solana network only for deposits, as WIF exists on no other chain natively. Numerous copycat tokens use the WIF name; always verify the mint address.
WIF's tokenomics are almost identical to a fixed-supply commodity. There is no mechanism for the price to be influenced by emissions, burns, or unlocks. This makes WIF a clean proxy for meme-sector sentiment, which is one reason traders use it as a benchmark for Solana meme demand.
No event defines WIF's history more than the Sphere campaign. It is simultaneously the project's greatest marketing success and its most damaging controversy.
In mid-March 2024, a group of crypto influencers, including Ansem (Zion Thomas), GamesMasterFlex (Edward), Quasi, and Mihir, launched a crowdfunding drive to display the dogwifhat image on the exterior of the Las Vegas Sphere, the world's largest spherical building and a marquee advertising surface. The community contributed more than $690,000 in USDC within days. The funds were held in a multisig wallet. The campaign generated coverage from mainstream and crypto outlets alike and coincided with WIF's run to its all-time high.
Months passed without the ad appearing. Organizers cited negotiations with an unnamed "fashion partner" that would run the ad on WIF's behalf, since the Sphere reportedly accepted crypto advertising only from exchanges and Bitcoin-related campaigns. Crypto.com successfully ran a Bitcoin-themed Sphere ad in July 2024, which intensified questions about why WIF could not.
At one point the official dogwifhat X account posted "Officially confirmed. Viva hat vegas," then deleted it. In late January 2025, the account hinted the dog would appear on the Exosphere in Q1 2025. Decrypt reported in January 2025 that a Sphere deal had never been on the cards.
On the evening of March 31, 2025, Edward announced on X that the Sphere effort was over and refunds would begin the next day. He claimed a deal with the fashion partner had been secured but that press coverage "spooked" the partner. Days later, a Sphere spokesperson told Decrypt that the venue had never had a deal with dogwifhat and that its agency had held only one preliminary conversation in early 2024.
Refunds were processed from the multisig; contributors who had sent from centralized exchanges had to submit proof manually. WIF's market cap had fallen about 91% from $4.27 billion to roughly $426 million by the time of the announcement, and the token slid from #82 to #113 in the rankings.
More than a year later, on July 2, 2026, Ansem published a video titled "Why I Didn't Put WIF on the Sphere." He argued that organizers could not publicly describe their approach because disclosing it would reveal to the Sphere that a crypto token was behind the ad, which would have killed the deal. Critics, including Protos, noted this amounted to telling the Sphere that dogwifhat "isn't crypto." The video reopened debate about the campaign's transparency and remains the most-discussed WIF story of 2026.
Ansem (Zion Thomas, @blknoiz06) is one of crypto Twitter's most influential traders and was instrumental in WIF's early virality. His posts about WIF in late 2023 and early 2024 are widely credited with drawing attention to the token, and he was a public face of the Sphere fundraiser.
WIF has no founder, so influencer figures filled the vacuum. Alongside Ansem, GamesMasterFlex (Edward) runs one of the most prominent dogwifhat community accounts and was the organizer who announced the Sphere refund. The official @dogwifcoin X account is community-operated.
This structure means WIF's narrative is shaped by a handful of pseudonymous personalities rather than an accountable team. It is a source of both authenticity (no corporate spin) and risk (no formal accountability), as the Sphere episode demonstrated.
WIF's primary function is as a liquid, high-beta trading instrument. Daily volume of $20–60 million and listings on every major exchange make it one of the most tradable meme coins.
Binance, Bybit, OKX, and others offer WIF perpetuals with high leverage. Some venues have added WIF options. Derivatives volume frequently exceeds spot volume.
Traders and analysts use WIF as a bellwether for Solana meme demand. Its price relative to BONK, POPCAT, and newer launches signals capital rotation.
Holding WIF signals membership in the "hat stays on" community. Merchandise, memes, and the "wif" naming convention have spread far beyond the token.
WIF is accepted as collateral on several Solana lending protocols and is a common pair on Jupiter, Raydium, and Orca liquidity pools.
WIF does not gate access to any product, has no staking, and has no governance.
WIF's differentiators are its cultural clarity, its unusually small supply for a meme coin (under 1 billion tokens, making per-token prices feel "real"), and its status as the Solana meme cycle's flagship. Its main disadvantage versus BONK or SHIB is the total absence of ecosystem development.

WIF is among the most liquid Solana tokens, so slippage is low even for large orders. Derivatives traders should note that WIF's funding rates swing sharply during sector rallies.

Market cap: roughly $137–193 million across summer 2026 snapshots; about $150 million in early September.
Daily volume: typically $20–60 million, spiking above $300 million during the Upbit listing.
Drawdown from ATH: about 97%.
Sector rank: sixth-largest animal-themed meme coin by market cap (~$148.5 million at the time of ranking).
Technical levels traders watch: resistance at $0.27 (Fibonacci 0.236), $0.32, and $0.37–$0.45; support at $0.13 and the $0.17–$0.20 consolidation band.
WIF is a high-beta proxy for two things: Bitcoin risk appetite and Solana meme-sector rotation. It typically outperforms during altcoin seasons and underperforms sharply when Bitcoin dominance rises. Exchange listings (Binance in 2024, Upbit in 2026) produce short-lived spikes. Reputational events like the Sphere saga weigh on sentiment for extended periods.
WIF has no team or roadmap, so its news consists of exchange events, on-chain flows, influencer activity, and sector coverage. The following developments, ordered chronologically, are the most significant.
Organizer GamesMasterFlex announced the end of the Sphere effort and the start of refunds from the multisig holding nearly $700,000. The official dogwifhat account reposted the statement. Within days, a Sphere spokesperson told Decrypt no deal had ever existed. The episode, covered by Decrypt, Protos, ChainCatcher, Traders Union, and others, marked the low point of WIF's reputation and coincided with its exit from the top 100 cryptocurrencies.
WIF spent most of 2025 declining as Solana meme liquidity rotated to newer launches on Pump.fun and as the Sphere fallout lingered. The token found interim support in the $0.30–$0.35 zone late in the year, a level analysts flagged as critical entering 2026.
99Bitcoins' 2026 outlook noted WIF trading below its 50-, 100-, and 200-week EMAs with all three sloping downward, and characterized any 2026 upside as likely corrective rather than trend-changing. It identified $0.30–$0.35 as the key support and observed that most participants were waiting for resolution of "continued controversy" before re-entering.
Community analysts highlighted WIF appearing consistently in weekly top-10 accumulation rankings, framing committed holders as positioning for Bitcoin's next all-time high. The "hat stays on" slogan resurfaced across crypto X.
Coverage via MEXC and BeInCrypto projected a possible recovery to $0.40 by April 2026 despite bearish momentum, with long-term targets up to $2.11 by 2030. The $0.40 target was not reached; WIF instead consolidated between $0.17 and $0.20 into May.
South Korea's largest exchange, Upbit, announced WIF trading against KRW, BTC, and USDT, opening at 16:00 KST. The listing notice specified the Solana network only and the verified mint address, and applied standard early-trading controls (buy orders restricted for five minutes, some sell-order limits for two hours).
The reaction was immediate. WIF broke out of its $0.17–$0.20 range, rallying 25% within hours and as much as 44% to a local peak of $0.28. Daily volume surged over 300% to between $220 million and $405 million depending on the venue, and CoinGlass data showed heavy derivatives buying. On-chain trackers reported whale orders between $100,000 and $1 million. CCN and CoinGape described the token as "rising from the dead," while cautioning that weak spot inflows made the rally fragile. Sellers returned at $0.28, and WIF settled near $0.215–$0.223 the following day.
Bybit recorded WIF at $0.193 with a $193 million market cap, ranking #188. The Upbit premium had largely faded, though the listing left WIF with durable Korean retail access.
WIF traded between roughly $0.13 and $0.20 through June. On June 29, technical accounts circulated buy setups around $0.177 targeting $0.196, reflecting active short-term trader interest even in a quiet month.
Ansem released a video addressing the Sphere campaign 15 months after its cancellation. He explained that organizers could not disclose their strategy publicly because doing so would have revealed a crypto token was behind the ad, which the Sphere would not accept. Protos summarized the argument as Ansem telling the Sphere that "dogwifhat isn't crypto." The video generated significant discussion, with some holders viewing it as overdue closure and critics arguing it confirmed the campaign was never viable. It was the most-discussed WIF story of the summer.
WIF fluctuated between $0.13 and $0.18. CoinMarketCap's mid-July analysis listed the May Upbit listing among key catalysts and noted $44.2 million in daily volume, but no new project-specific drivers emerged.
Ahead of August, market coverage named WIF among the best meme coins to watch, citing a 5.2% weekly gain, daily volume near $21.5 million, and Solana ecosystem tailwinds. CoinGape's August 20 snapshot placed WIF at $0.137 with a $137 million market cap and noted a weekly bullish engulfing pattern. Late August brought a Bitcoin rally to $79,500 and a 273% surge in Upbit volume, which supported Korean-listed tokens including WIF.
A market ranking placed WIF as the sixth-largest animal-themed meme coin by market cap at about $148.5 million, behind DOGE and SHIB. CoinMarketCap showed WIF around $0.154 with the Crypto Fear & Greed Index at 32.
Bitcoin all-time-high attempts: Historically the strongest trigger for WIF rallies.
$0.27 and $0.32 resistance: Clearing these would signal a trend change; failure keeps the macro downtrend intact.
Korean retail flows via Upbit: Now a meaningful demand source.
Any further Sphere-related disclosures from organizers or the venue.
Solana meme rotation: New launches compete directly for WIF's liquidity.
Dogwifhat has no foundation and no marketing budget. Its visibility comes from four sources.
For better and worse, the Sphere effort is WIF's defining marketing story. It raised nearly $700,000 from the community in days, generated mainstream coverage, and coincided with WIF's all-time high. Its collapse, the refund, and Ansem's 2026 explanation have kept the story alive for two and a half years. Few meme coins have received as much press from a campaign that never ran.
Ansem, GamesMasterFlex, and other crypto X personalities remain WIF's primary promoters. Their posts, threads, and videos drive attention spikes, and the "hat stays on" meme is a persistent engagement loop.
Binance's 2024 listing and Upbit's 2026 listing were the two largest demand events in WIF's history. Exchanges regularly feature WIF in Solana-meme trading competitions and leveraged-trading promotions.
WIF spawned catwifhat, bonkwifhat, simbawifhat, wenwifhat, and countless others. This organic proliferation keeps the original in conversation. Community-produced hats, plush toys, and apparel featuring Achi circulate widely; none are official because there is no official entity.
Readers should note the absence of a team, treasury, roadmap, governance, official events calendar, or accountable marketing organization. The Sphere organizers were volunteers, and the funds were community donations. WIF should be evaluated as a culture asset whose promotion is entirely emergent.
Extreme drawdown: WIF is about 97% below its March 2024 high.
No fundamentals: There is no product, revenue, or development to anchor value.
Reputational overhang: The Sphere saga continues to generate negative coverage, most recently in July 2026.
Key-person risk without accountability: Influencers shape the narrative but have no formal obligations to holders.
Sector rotation: Solana meme liquidity constantly rotates to new launches.
Leverage and liquidations: WIF is heavily traded on perpetuals; cascading liquidations amplify moves.
Copycat tokens: Always verify the mint address ending in 65zcjm.
