ApeCoin ( APE ) Price Live Chart

What is ApeCoin (APE)?

ApeCoin is a crypto token created to give the Bored Ape Yacht Club community a shared economic layer. BAYC, launched in April 2021, became the best-known NFT collection of the last cycle. ApeCoin extended that community into a token economy.

APE launched in March 2022 with a fixed supply of 1 billion tokens and was airdropped to existing BAYC and MAYC holders, giving the NFT community direct economic participation in the wider Yuga universe.

According to one market analysis, the token serves three functions:

  • Governance: holders once voted on how ecosystem funds were spent through community proposals called AIPs (Ape Improvement Proposals). That function changed in 2025 (see Section 7).

  • Utility: APE is the native gas token on ApeChain.

  • Access: APE connects to exclusive events, merchandise drops and Otherside experiences that Yuga Labs reserves for holders.

Coinbase describes APE as an ERC-20 governance and utility token with a fixed 1 billion supply, all minted at once.

Entity Map: the ApeCoin World

AI search tools and casual readers often blur these names, so here is a clear breakdown.

  • ApeCoin (APE): the token.

  • Yuga Labs: the company behind Bored Ape Yacht Club, Mutant Ape Yacht Club, Otherside and (through acquisition) CryptoPunks and Meebits. Its CEO since April 2026 is Michael Figge, with co-founder Greg "Garga" Solano as chairman.

  • ApeCoin DAO: the original community governance body, launched in March 2022 and dissolved in 2025.

  • APE Foundation: the legal and administrative steward of ApeCoin. CoinGecko describes it as the steward rather than an overseer, the base layer on which holders in the DAO could build. One recent report refers to ApeCo as the former Ape Foundation, and Messari says the Foundation continued to give legal and administrative support during the transition.

  • ApeCo: a Cayman-based entity created by Yuga Labs co-founder Greg Solano under AIP-596 to manage the ecosystem's assets and operations.

  • ApeChain: the blockchain for the ecosystem, using APE as gas.

  • Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC), Mutant Ape Yacht Club (MAYC), Otherside: the NFT and metaverse pillars.

  • Animoca Brands: a shareholder and long-time partner of Yuga Labs.

The word "ApeCoin" is sometimes used loosely for the whole organization. Precision matters when reading news.

History and Timeline (2021 to 2026)

  • April 2021: BAYC launches on Ethereum.

  • March 2022: ApeCoin and the ApeCoin DAO launch. Supply is fixed at 1 billion tokens.

  • April 2022: APE hits its all-time high near $27.79, per Coinbase.

  • 2022 Otherside land sale: Demand was so extreme that it clogged Ethereum and cost users about $157 million in gas fees. That episode is often cited as the motivation for a dedicated chain.

  • January 2025 (AIP-582): Governance moves on-chain via ApeChain with 93% support, and much of the treasury shifts into the ApeChain ecosystem.

  • October 20, 2024: ApeChain launches at ApeFest Lisbon, built on Arbitrum's Orbit framework.

  • June 2025 (AIP-596): Tokenholders approve dissolving the DAO. Reported approval was about 98%.

  • Late 2025: Yuga Labs announces an Otherside partnership with Amazon during ApeFest in Las Vegas, including an NFT avatar sold through Amazon.

  • March 2026: One aggregator reports that all APE vesting schedules concluded, removing unlock-driven sell pressure.

  • April 24, 2026: Michael Figge becomes Yuga Labs CEO on BAYC's fifth anniversary, and APE spikes.

  • May 29, 2026: Yuga Labs announces it will end its parallel management model for ApeCoin, with the ApeCo head role eliminated and a completion deadline of June 5, 2026.

  • July 31, 2026: ApeChain switches its designated stablecoin from apeUSD to USDC.

  • September 9, 2026: Yuga Labs announces community testing plans for an Otherside resource economy.

  • October 15 to 18, 2026: ApeFest 2026 week, with the main event on October 17.

A note on dates: at least one price-tracker page misdates AIP-596 as June 2026. Multiple primary-adjacent sources, including Messari and crypto.news, place it in June 2025.

ApeCoin Tokenomics

Supply: 1,000,000,000 APE, fixed, with the entire supply minted at once. Coinbase lists circulating supply at 100% of max supply.

Original allocation (approximate, from launch documentation): The largest share, roughly 62%, went to the ecosystem fund controlled by the DAO. About 15% was airdropped to BAYC, MAYC and later Otherdeed holders. The remainder went to launch contributors, Yuga Labs and its founders. Verify exact figures against ApeCoin's original documentation, since percentages are often quoted differently.

Vesting: One price-tracker page says all vesting schedules concluded in March 2026, which it credits with removing prior unlock-driven sell pressure. Treat this as a reported claim and confirm against on-chain data.

Treasury: Under AIP-596, ApeCo was to first top up the staking contract with 11.25 million APE (about $8.3 million at the time), reserve 10 million APE for legal and transition costs, and absorb the remaining Foundation treasury, including tokens, domains and smart contracts. Reports valued the assets moving to ApeCo at about $168 million at the time of the proposal, while a later guide puts the remaining assets at $486 million. Valuations differ because APE's price moved and reports used different dates.

Why treasury control matters: The treasury is the ecosystem's war chest. Who spends it, and on what, is now a decision made by a company, not by token voting.

Burn and gas: Every transaction and smart-contract deployment on ApeChain burns a small amount of APE as gas, according to Phemex. In practice, the burn is small unless chain usage grows substantially.

What is APE used for?

  1. Gas on ApeChain: APE is the native gas token.

  2. Other side currency: The game uses APE as its main currency. The September 2026 resource-economy announcement described APE as the only route for moving value into and out of the economy.

  3. Access and perks: ApeFest, merch drops and holder experiences.

  4. Staking: APE staking exists, and AIP-596 provided for topping up the staking contract, though rules and yields have changed over time. Verify current terms in official channels.

  5. Multichain presence: Forbes' data page notes APE is available across Ethereum, Arbitrum, Solana and HyperLiquid. A CMC summary adds BNB Chain, with builders viewing this multi-chain push as a shift from a governance token toward a "culture coin."

  6. Payments in ecosystem commerce: CoinMarketCap describes APE as the cultural currency powering events like ApeFest and ComplexCon and how members pay for community-made goods.

  7. Trading: APE is widely listed, including on Coinbase.

Governance is the most notable missing use. With the DAO sunset, holders no longer vote on treasury spending in the old way. One of the questions analysts want answered at ApeFest is how APE holders will be involved now that the DAO has gone.

ApeChain Explained

ApeChain is a dedicated blockchain for the APE ecosystem. Messari describes it as transitioning ApeCoin to an operational Layer-3 built on Arbitrum's Orbit framework, launched October 20, 2024, with APE as native gas for cost-efficient transactions.

Launch features: At launch, the team highlighted account abstraction through Yuga ID, gas-sponsored transactions, native yield, one-click onboarding via Ape Portal, Apple Pay support, and the first use of LayerZero's Omnichain Fungible Token standard. Launch partners included LayerZero, the Arbitrum Foundation, Horizen Labs, Caldera, Wire Network and Off Chain Labs.

Launch apps: ApeChain.com opened with a slate of apps such as Yuga's Top Trader, Pixel Vault's Battle Plan, Sugartown's Poker and mobile hit Dookey Dash: Unclogged, plus Otherside.

Current health: Usage is modest. About 10,000 daily active addresses were reported in April 2026, and an Indonesian market report cites roughly $3.1 million in locked value and 10,000 daily users going into ApeFest. That is not a dead chain, but it isn't one where a new project automatically attracts attention.

Stablecoin change: ApeChain migrated its designated stablecoin from apeUSD to USDC effective July 31, 2026, aiming for a deeper liquidity base and simpler access for users. It is an infrastructure improvement and neutral for APE's direct utility.

Why it matters: APE's investment case increasingly depends on ApeChain generating real fee-paying activity. Analysts frame the key test as whether new applications launch that consume APE as a fee.

Governance: From DAO to ApeCo to Yuga Labs

This is the most important structural story in ApeCoin's history.

The DAO era (2022 to 2025): Holders proposed and voted on AIPs. The system funded projects but drew criticism for low voter participation and slow operations. Frustrations included needing a separate proposal just to update the official website with ApeChain links.

AIP-596 (June 2025): Yuga Labs CEO Greg Solano proposed sunsetting the DAO, calling it "sluggish, noisy, and often unserious governance theater" that funds vanity proposals and low-impact initiatives. He argued a leaner vehicle could eliminate gridlock and focus capital on three pillars: ApeChain, Bored Ape Yacht Club and Otherside. The proposal ended tokenholder governance, transferred assets to ApeCo, and removed legacy structures such as the Special Council, WebSlinger and the proposal and voting process. Messari notes that ApeCo would instead administer funding directly with milestone-based execution.

Vote result: Approval reached about 98%. Participation and framing were debated, and some community members raised concerns about the speed of events. Animoca Brands said it would keep supporting the ecosystem under the new model.

The critique: Critics saw a token community vote itself out of power, handing control of hundreds of millions of dollars to a corporate entity with direct ties to the founding company. Supporters argued speed and execution justified it.

2026: Yuga absorbs ApeCo: In late May 2026, Yuga Labs CEO Michael Figge said the company would end its parallel management model. ApeChain teams would report directly to Yuga, ApeCo's independent head, Cameron Kates, would depart, and the role would be eliminated. The completion deadline was June 5, 2026. An outlet framed this as a response to shifting regulatory demands, and unified reporting was pitched as faster decision-making with better security controls.

Legal context: A separate securities class action against Yuga Labs saw a ruling in which plaintiffs reportedly failed to show that BAYC and other NFTs are investment contracts under the Howey test. That is a court finding about NFTs, not about APE.

What it means for holders: APE is now, in practice, the token of a company-run ecosystem. That can mean clearer execution but  also concentrated decision-making and less formal holder influence. Weigh it accordingly.

Otherside, BAYC and the "Culture Coin" Strategy

Otherside: Yuga's metaverse project has been rolled out in stages. The 2025 roadmap included the Koda Nexus hub, Voyager 2.0 and expanded Otherdeed utility. For 2026, Yuga planned a Resources system with land production, crafting and an active in-game economy running on ApeChain.

September 2026 resource economy: Yuga described a system with 74 on-chain resources, harvesting fees set by landowners, character benefits and crafting, and called the launch "one of the most sophisticated game economies ever built on blockchain." The announcement did not give a precise testing date, registration process or fee limits.

Amazon: In late 2025, Yuga announced its first partnership with Amazon, selling an Otherside NFT avatar (Boximus) through Amazon's gaming front page. Michael Figge, then Chief Creative Officer, said the goal was reaching Amazon's 300 million-plus users.

Yuga Grails: With the April 2026 leadership change, Yuga unveiled plans for an over-the-counter desk to provide liquidity for NFTs.

BAYC revival signs: By May 2026, BAYC floor prices had reportedly climbed from about 5 ETH to about 10 ETH over a month, while APE rallied from below $0.10 to about $0.16, per one report quoting Yuga's new CEO calling the NFT market "oversold."

Culture coin positioning: Yuga's messaging positions APE as fuel for culture: events, merchandise, collectibles, games and IRL experiences. That is a very different pitch from "governance token," and the evidence for it will be product adoption, not proposals.

APE price context and What moves it?

Recent snapshots (verify live):

  • CoinGecko: about $0.1486, market cap about $148.6 million, up 24% over seven days, with about $61.8 million in daily volume and a rank near #228.

  • Coinbase: about $0.1493, up 19% on the week, roughly 99% below the April 2022 all-time high.

  • CoinMarketCap: about $0.1545, market cap near $154.5 million, rank #162.

  • Crypto.com: about $0.1476, with a 7-day range of about $0.125 to $0.165.

What tends to move APE?

  1. Leadership and corporate news: The April 24, 2026, CEO change drove a one-day surge of roughly 90%, touching about $0.223 before most gains faded.

  2. Whale and leverage activity: On-chain analysts flagged a brand-new wallet that sold ETH and opened a leveraged APE long of over $1 million just before the announcement, which sparked insider-trading suspicion. That claim is an allegation from on-chain observers, not a finding.

  3. NFT market sentiment: BAYC floor prices and broader NFT interest.

  4. Catalysts on the calendar: ApeFest, Otherside testing, and ApeChain launches.

  5. Macro crypto conditions: APE behaves like a high-beta small-cap.

  6. Structure changes: Governance shifts, treasury moves and exchange listings.

Technical framing: Some analysts cite resistance zones and channel breakouts. Treat all chart-based targets as speculative. One forecasting site sets base-case 2026 targets, but forecasts have poor track records, especially for small-cap tokens. As one analysis puts it, a token that has lost 99% can lose another 90%.

Risks and Criticisms

  • Centralization risk: After AIP-596 and the 2026 restructuring, decisions rest with Yuga Labs.

  • Adoption risk: ApeChain has modest activity, and Otherside has not yet delivered a mainstream user base.

  • Key-entity risk: APE's fortunes are tied to one company and one brand.

  • NFT market risk: BAYC's cultural and financial momentum is well below 2021 to 2022 levels.

  • Volatility and manipulation: Extreme daily swings and suspicious pre-announcement trading.

  • Security risk: An Indonesian market note flags that approvals given to older NFT marketplaces have reportedly been exploited since September 2026. Regularly review and revoke old token and NFT approvals in your wallet.

  • Regulatory risk: Securities-law questions have followed NFTs and tokens generally.

  • Liquidity risk: With daily volume often in the tens of millions, large orders can move the price.

Pros and Cons of ApeCoin

Potential strengths

  • Recognizable brand and an established community.

  • A dedicated chain with sponsored transactions and easy onboarding.

  • Fixed supply with vesting reportedly completed.

  • Real-world and IRL touchpoints such as ApeFest and partnerships.

  • New leadership focused on product delivery.

  • Multi-chain presence.

Potential weaknesses

  • Roughly 99% drawdown from all-time high.

  • Governance centralized in a company.

  • Thin on-chain activity.

  • Dependence on Otherside and NFT recovery.

  • Prior rallies have reversed quickly.

  • Reports of suspicious trading and wallet-drain risks.

How to buy, store and stake APE safely?

  1. Choose a regulated exchange available in your country and compare fees and liquidity. APE is listed on major venues such as Coinbase.

  2. Verify the contract address from official Yuga or ApeCoin channels. Fake tokens with copycat names are common.

  3. Self-custody with care: Use a reputable wallet. Keep recovery phrases offline.

  4. Add ApeChain correctly: Use official links rather than random RPC lists.

  5. Revoke old approvals: Use a token-approval checker on your wallets, especially if you have interacted with older NFT marketplaces.

  6. Beware of scams: Fake airdrops, "claim your APE" links and impersonation accounts around ApeFest are typical.

  7. Size positions responsibly: APE is volatile.

Headline Event: ApeFest 2026 Approaches (October 15 to 18)

ApeFest is Yuga's flagship community and marketing event, and the 2026 edition looks deliberately smaller and more art-focused than in earlier years.

Key details

  • The main event takes place Saturday, October 17, 2026, from 7pm to midnight in Charleston, South Carolina, in the studios of digital artist Beeple, according to apefest.com as cited by CryptoTicker.

  • The official calendar features 14 side events from Thursday, October 15 through Sunday, October 18, according to the Bored Ape Gazette.

  • Coverage frames the venue choice as a signal: closer to the art and less of a grand stage.

What the market is watching (three questions)

  1. Whether Yuga presents a concrete roadmap for Otherside.

  2. Whether new ApeChain applications launch that consume APE as a fee.

  3. Whether Yuga explains how APE holders are involved now that the DAO has gone.

Historical pattern. ApeFest has been the stage for major announcements: ApeChain's mainnet launched at ApeFest Lisbon in October 2024, and the Amazon partnership was unveiled at ApeFest Las Vegas in 2025. Expect Yuga to try to make news again, and expect volatility around any announcement.

Otherside Resource Economy (Announced September 9, 2026)

Yuga announced plans to begin community testing of a resource economy for Otherside.

  • Design: 74 on-chain resources, harvesting fees paid to Otherdeed landowners, character benefits and crafting.

  • Role of APE: the announcement described APE as the only route for moving value into and out of the economy. That is a meaningful demand narrative if the game attracts players.

  • Unknowns: no exact testing start date, registration process, fee limits or payment mechanics were published.

  • Testing caveat: the initial phase tests a limited version, with resource resets possible while crafted items are retained.

  • Voyagers and Starpods: Yuga said Voyagers would take flight in Starpods during 2026.

Marketing angle. The line "This isn't a normal product launch" signals that Yuga is trying to frame Otherside as a serious game economy rather than a collectibles project. One recent report also quotes Yuga's James Hall calling Otherside "the biggest experiment on-chain," which shows the tone the team is taking with critics.

July 2026: ApeChain Moves to USDC

Effective July 31, 2026, ApeChain shifted its designated stablecoin from apeUSD to USDC. Stated benefits include a deeper liquidity base for APE on the chain and simpler stablecoin access for users entering or trading on the ecosystem. Analysts read it as a backend improvement that helps the user experience but doesn't add direct new utility for APE.

Why it matters for marketing. Using a familiar stablecoin lowers friction for outside developers and users, which supports ApeChain's pitch to builders beyond the BAYC base.

May to June 2026: Yuga Labs Absorbs ApeCo

Announced May 29, 2026 by CEO Michael Figge:

  • Yuga Labs ends its parallel management structure for ApeCoin.

  • ApeChain teams now work directly with Yuga Labs, and core technology and business development move into a single pipeline.

  • The head of ApeCo departs, and the role is eliminated.

  • Some staff departures accompany the restructuring, with a June 5, 2026 completion deadline.

Coverage linked the move to regulatory pressure and operational friction, although the company's stated rationale emphasized speed and security controls. CoinMarketCap's AI summary describes a governance overhaul from the DAO to a centralized entity that has restored some confidence among observers, while builders celebrate APE's quiet growth across Solana, Hyperliquid and BNB Chain.

April 2026: New CEO, 90% Spike and Insider-Trading Questions

  • On April 24, 2026, BAYC's fifth anniversary, Yuga Labs promoted Michael Figge to CEO, with Greg Solano becoming chairman.

  • APE surged about 92% in a session to around $0.223 after trading below $0.12 for months. Korean exchange Bithumb showed a 77% one-day jump, while Binance's USDT market climbed more than 90% intraday to as high as $0.278.

  • Lookonchain flagged a brand-new wallet that sold $174,000 in ETH and opened a $1.03 million APE long at 5x leverage shortly before the news. The event sparked insider-trading suspicion. No proof of wrongdoing has been established in the sources reviewed here.

  • Yuga also unveiled plans for Yuga Grails, an OTC desk to provide liquidity for NFTs.

  • Most of the gain later faded, consistent with APE's history: the last time it surged about 100% in a day was in October 2024 when ApeChain launched, and those gains largely evaporated within weeks.

Yuga labs' marketing playbook: What they actually do?

Based on public activity, the ApeCoin ecosystem relies on several repeatable tactics:

  1. Anchor events. ApeFest doubles as a product-launch stage and a community retention tool.

  2. Big-brand distribution experiments. The Amazon partnership put an Otherside avatar in front of Amazon's audience.

  3. Anniversary and timing plays. Naming a CEO on BAYC's fifth anniversary made the news feel like a milestone.

  4. Culture-first messaging. The "APE fuels culture" line positions the token around events, merchandise, games and IRL experiences instead of governance.

  5. Gated perks. Holder-only merch drops and event access tie value to ownership.

  6. Iterative live testing. Stress-test events such as Otherside Outbreak generate content and data before major releases.

  7. Multi-chain reach. Availability across Ethereum, Arbitrum, Solana, HyperLiquid and BNB Chain broadens exposure.

  8. Founder and executive narrative. Leadership stories, from Solano's DAO critique to Figge's entertainment background, drive coverage.

  9. Community media. Fan-run outlets like the Bored Ape Gazette amplify calendars and side events.

A note on the "ApeCoin Foundation." The APE Foundation originally handled legal and administrative functions for the DAO. With ApeCo folded into Yuga Labs, marketing and ecosystem promotion now flow primarily through Yuga Labs and ApeFest channels.

Ecosystem Health Check

  • Chain metrics: about 10,000 daily active addresses (April 2026) and a reported $3.1 million in locked value ahead of ApeFest.

  • Market cap: near $150 million, down from about $518 million when the ApeCo proposal was floated in June 2025 at a $0.69 price, according to Coincu's report. That tells you how much the market has repriced the ecosystem.

  • NFT sentiment: BAYC floor prices roughly doubled in one month in spring 2026, but remain far below their peak.

  • Volatility: Bitget's news feed carries multiple headlines about 24-hour amplitude spikes tied to the CEO change, whale positions and volume surges.

  • Security: reported exploitation of old marketplace approvals since September 2026 is a live risk for wallet holders.

What to Watch Next (Sept 28 to Year-End 2026)

  1. ApeFest announcements (Oct 15 to 18): Otherside roadmap, ApeChain apps, holder involvement.

  2. Otherside resource-economy testing dates: and whether APE demand from the game materializes.

  3. ApeChain activity: daily users, locked value and fee-paying apps.

  4. Yuga Grails rollout: NFT liquidity desk progress.

  5. Governance clarity: any formal framework for holder input.

  6. Security incidents: approval exploits and phishing tied to ApeFest.

  7. Ape Accelerator: one aggregator says a funding platform is scheduled for Q3 2026, with staking possibly required to submit proposals or access grants. Treat this as unconfirmed until Yuga publishes details.

  8. Whale and exchange flows: which have driven sharp moves this year.

Bottom Line

ApeCoin has gone from a DAO-governed community token to a company-steered "culture coin" tied to Yuga Labs' bets on ApeChain, BAYC and Otherside. Trading near $0.15 and roughly 99% below its peak, APE's future depends on whether Yuga can convert brand recognition into real users and fee-paying activity. ApeFest in October is the next big test. Read primary sources, verify live data, and remember that nothing here is financial advice.
